Take a Look: Jill’s Reading
Jill, the Shiny Mama of six (omg is she insane?), was my very first client for the 10 for $25 challenge. We met over Skype, which is cool, because we can see each other, and not cool because I don’t have the software to record it. So, to be nice I told her I’d type up a short summary of her reading so that she could have something to refer back to if she wanted.
As I was typing it up, I realized that maybe some of you don’t really know what a Tarot reading is all about. Maybe you haven’t had one (or maybe you had a really bad one) or you just aren’t sure about how I read Tarot. So, I asked Jill and she said she was cool if I shared her summary with you. (This isn’t her full reading, it doesn’t have any of the specifics or details that we discussed when we were live; your full reading would involve coaching and advice that addresses your issue at hand more fully than this – which Jill got.)
The Reading
Jill asked me to do a reading about her career possibilities, but not just about doing a job, but finding her purpose. She also mentioned a specific field (I don’t want to spill her beans for her so I’m being vague on purpose) and the reading, overall, indicated that was in fact the way she should be going. Without further ado… the reading:
1. The Heart of the Matter – The Situation/You – Seven of Cups
You’ve been spending all of your time daydreaming about all the possibilities and been letting these distract you from actually doing anything. Despite having all these dream options, there is one REAL option already in front of you, and it might be time to turn you attention to that.
2.What Crosses You – What’s Keeping You From Moving Forward – Justice (Major Arcana)
You aren’t moving forward because you’ve been too immersed in the Seven of Cups when what is called for is some restoration of balance and clear cut thinking. Turn your attention to the very real possibility in front of you and approach it with a balanced plan and you’ll find things suddenly begin to move and shift here again.
3.Your Subconscious – What Your Soul/Subconscious Focus is – Strength (Major Arcana)
You’ve been telling yourself that the one cup in front of you is impractical and you can’t possibly succeed at it; that there’s a lot that needs to be done before you could possibly try that. But deep in your Soul you know that you can do this. Your Spirit has complete and utter confidence in your ability to do this. It’s time to listen to this voice and to be the master of your Ego (instead of letting it bully you around). Listen to your heart and you’ll know this is the right path for you.
4.The Past – What Kind of Energy and Experiences Are You Moving Away From – Death (Major Arcana)
You’re coming out of a phase full of endings. Some of them have been the natural endings of a cycle (or phase of life) – all children grow up and move out, for example – some of them may have been endings that were forced on you, because you were unwilling to let go. Either way, the last stage has been a little bit sad and difficult for you as you seem to have to let a lot of things go. Remember, death also brings the promise of rebirth with it. Death of on thing makes room for another thing to be born and take it’s place. Still, it’s probably good to know that this energy is moving into your past and should be ending soon (if it hasn’t already).
5.Conscious Thought – What Your Conscious Mind Has Been Focusing On – Five of Cups – Reversed
This tells me that your focus lately has been on of sorrow, and probably a bit of self-pity. We see that three of his cups have tipped over and spilt their contents, and even though two are still full this loss seems to consume our figure. You’ve been feeling a bit sad for yourself because of all the endings that you’ve been going through, and maybe been letting Self-Pity be the name of the game when thinking about what kind of work you’d like to do. I read reversals as an indication of importance, kind of a neon “Look At Me” sign, this tells me that’s it very important you recognize and change this behavior now. Remember, what we focus on is what we get more of. Time to change what you are focusing on. Look to the Strength in position Three and go from Her.
6.Your Future – The Kind of Energy & Experiences You Can Expect in the Near Future – The Hanged Man (Major Arcana)
This tells me that some sacrifices are going to need to be made on your part. Starting a new job/career is obviously going to require changes on your part and you’ll probably need to plan to sacrifice some of the aspects of life as you are used to it, to get what you are now aiming for. Still, the Hanged Man talks about sacrifices both willingly made and done with the promise of something better as the reward. Be prepared to make the changes and to give some things up, but don’t stress about it – it’s all for the best, and it won’t hurt that much.
7. Your Environment – What You Have Available Outside of You/ or How Others See You – Ace of Wands
Not only does this card tell me that you have a lot of Fire potential inside of you (and that other people who see you know it) – that is potential for creativity, passion, inspiration and the spiritual – but you have a lot of resources in this field available to you too. Tell people what you are starting and don’t be afraid to ask for help – others have what you need and they are ready and willing to help you. Cause darling, they all love you and think you are a ball of energy.
8. Your Inner You – How You See Yourself/ or Your Inner Potential – Eight of Wands – Reversed
We are still in wands, which tells me Fire is what you need as you set out toward your purpose in life, and Fire is what you have. You’ve got passion and creativity and inspiration in spades and they are ready to help you do the work that you need to do now. As you plan your goal, take aim, and shoot yourself toward the target you’ll find you have just what it takes to get there and to hit your mark. it may take hard work and diligence, but you’ve got that too, add in your naturally fiery excitement and everything will seem pretty easy – or at least fun. Have at, you can do this.
The reversal here brings me back to the earlier reversal, I think the cards are trying to tell you to change one mindset (the Five of Cups) for another (the Eight of Wands).
9. Your Hopes and Fears – What You Are Afraid of/What You Hope for/ or Both – Six of Swords
This is the only place in your spread that we see the difficult and intellectual suit, which tells me that this fear is mostly unwarranted, it’s outside of the energy surrounding your current situation. You are afraid of setting out and then basically becoming mired there. That you’ll start the journey in all good faith but that it will end up being a miserable loss that you need to recuperate from. You’re afraid that if you build it, no one will come!
At the same time, this card tells me about your hopes, as the Six of Swords can also referring to healing, so I know that one of you deepest hopes is that you can be a vehicle for healing.
10. The Outcome – What You Can Expect to Happen – Ten of Pentacles
Overall your reading tells me that YOU are your own biggest obstacle. This card speaks of ultimate attainment in the material world and tells me that if you can push through your own fears and doubts, make a solid plan, and start taking action you’ll find success – financial and personal – and create a legacy for you and your family.
Your Turn
I had so much fun doing Jill’s reading for her, which is the most exciting part about my 10 for $25 challenge – I love doing readings and being able to make a real difference in people’s lives! Would you like to be next? I’d love to do a reading for you to, just contact me and we’ll get started. And if you’ve got questions about the readings, or even this reading let me know and I’ll share.
I’ve got one more reading booked, so there’s still 8 spots left to fill! I’m so excited about this challenge, thanks for humouring me while I natter on about it. I’m sure I’ll be back to the regularly scheduled blogging program soon.

Megan,
This is so cool and it goes a long way to helping me understand what you were talking about yesterday. I’m going to chat with Carlos and see if we can do one of your readings!
Also, I think my cousin would be really exceptional at creating art for Tarot cards. How does somebody learn more about that sort of thing?
I always think Tarot and Run readings are cool, even when I’m the one doing them
. I have yet to get over the funkiness of how accurate these things can be (hopefully I never will).
On the art… I know a few things about making Tarot art. I know it takes years and years to do a full deck (there’s little financial return compared to time invested, but I suppose a lot of satisfaction). I know that most artists do it out of a love for the tarot or the archetypes, or maybe sheer inspiration by them.
I also know that they need to know the cards, their archetypes, well, and that the art is normally full of symbolic meaning and association that comes from knowledge. I think if your cousin was interested, then the best way to begin would be to get a deck (or three or five), to immerse in the art and to start learning how to read the cards. If, the love of this type of art is there a good deck and some basic lessons will spark it!
* Side note: I was thinking of putting up the Tarot class that I’m currently teaching as a series of lessons for download, that would be a great beginning. I like to think I’m a good teacher
– especially for beginnings.
Does that help?
Yours,
Megan
Oh Julie, one more thing. You may also recommend your cousin look at getting (if interested in this kind of art) Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s book: The Art of Shadowscape Tarot – it’s self-published and she’d need to order it from her website, but not only is it stunningly beautiful and about Tarot, she also includes some of her pre-sketch and planning art and notes. Very revealing for any artist interested in this stuff!
Yours,
Megan
Thanks Megan! I think I’ll just send her the link to this article and she can read your comments for herself! You are awesome!
